rosenguild

The second set of characters in my Hamlet childrens storybook project.  This delightful duo are always seen together in the play thus they share the same out fit design.  For some reason I’ve always pictured Guildenstern as a hefty fellow so I gave him more body fat. Guildenstern also reminds me of the Pringles man, but I won’t go into too much detail there.

Another set of characters are on their way tomorrow! Click here for Gertrude and Polonius.

papericons2

Bored one day in my class I decided to draw a few random icons featuring a sheet of paper.  I thought they were pretty cool so I decided to post them here.  I may make them actual icons instead of pencil drawings, but no promises there.

gertpolonius

The first two characters, Queen Gertrude and Polonius, from my childrens book project for Hamlet.  They outfits are not really based on the movie  (1996) but may share similar qualities.  Please keep in mind that they are not designed to be extremely graphic, but more of cute animated pictures to help children grasp the concept of what each character means.

You will be kept up to date with this project as I continue to draw more people and begin plotting out the story board.

This won’t be the only project I’m working on though.  If you’re here because of my other drawings relating to youtube people, I’m not done with that ongoing project.  I will still be slipping in a few youtube doodles in between Hamlet posts.

As time went on, I slowly saw myself becoming less active here on Jesse talks. But never fret! The month long hiatus since my last post is finally coming to an end. I think I’ve got my creative spirit back :3

Look forward to posting everyday during December! I’ll see you tomorrow with the first installment to the wondeful Hamlet childrens book I’m working on!

Chibi Attempt Number Four

My fourth chibi attempt in which I have decided to call Gohan. I’m quite satisfied with the results of the drawing, especially with the clothing. It’s a step up from chibi attempt three in the detailing.

I still could use more attention with the shoes and the facial expressions though. The eyes throw the picture a little out of whack. Hopefully I’ll get it down by my next post!

3sixty5days – Chibi

Another go at chibi’ing a youtuber. This time it’s 3sixty5days! I always think that his channel is the project channel that’s supposed to do a video every day. Anyway, I found that his most recent video was extremely entertaining so I decided to “chibi-fy”!

I think I’m getting better at this, as the head doesn’t look so abnormal.  Eh, you can be the judge of that though! leave a comment.

Thatzak – Chibi

It’s been a while since I’ve done anything productive with this site.  These past few weeks have been anything but boring though.  Lot’s of planning with the homecoming committee at my school and I even made some huge banners for various events.  Yet all this time I felt like I wasn’t really doing art.  I was doing work. Finally as things have settled down I can get back to doing what making art not because its a chore but because its what I love to do.

The work that I’ve done above is part of my experimental chibi style collection.  It features Thatzak and a random pose.  I can’t say that this is my best work with chibi’s but it certainly is a good attempt. If anything at least the lettering is down. You can be the judge of how much it looks like Zak though (if at all).

If you enjoy this style of art you’ll be glad to know that I’ve got a few more lined up for the coming days. Enjoy!

Radial Symmetry 2

My second take on radial symmetric art (the condition of having similar parts arranged around a central canvas).  The main goal of this project was to take a “slice” of the circle and rotate it around six pieces to form a intertwining design.  It was really a matter of drawing random lines in hopes of producing a decent design.  After it was all drawn out, I began to take further interest in figuring out how to take it from a jumbled mess to a clean cut piece.

I decided upon using various shades of gray to create an interesting and eye catching piece. The final product came out very well and I’m satisfied with it. Unfortunately the file size is too big to display it always rotating so you’ll just have to admire it stationary.

Aladdin Sketch

Finally found some inspiration from good old Disney channel.  This is a sketch of Aladdin.  I sort of messed up the face a bit (as usual) but at least the body looks great.  Shading this was quite fun and I’m looking forward to doing more of the characters from Aladdin when I have the time.  Scanner sort of killed the quality, believe me it looks much richer in person. Any ideas on who I should do next?

… It’s been quite a rough week for me and I’m feeling quite uninspired. Hopefully this will pick things up a bit and keep my creativity flowing.

Manga Hand Positions

After a long while of deciding on my next project I decided that I wanted to persue the manga style of drawing.  So you’ll be getting nice hefty helping of my attempts to learn the style over the next few months.

This my first attempt at working with manga style hands.  I think that I’ve got the fists down alright, but I have problems with open hands.  I don’t really know how to get them to look less segmented.  If any one knows a good tutorial site for this type of work, hand related or not, please post it in a comment.  It would be greatly appreciated.

Graphite Logos

This is what happens when I have a few minutes to kill.  I really don’t know what I was going for by doing this but for pure amusement.  Anyway, above is a collection of six randomly designed logos in gray scale.  The drawing to the left of every image is just a quick graphite gradient style sketch that would represent the wording.

My favorite would have to be “fire dropplet.”  I find that the shading on it was done pretty well.

Hunger Initiative 2

Just a slight modification to the original design.  They wanted something a little more kid friendly as someone said from another forum.  I still think that it looks nicer with the wine glass but it’s not really what I want.  I’ll do what ever the designer thinks feels best for his bussiness… within reason.

Anyway, I’m still satisfied with the look and feel of this logo design and think it’s a strong contender.  I’m just waiting for the big designers to come flocking in and crush my ego.  Until I’ll just keep smiling and hoping for the best.

To be completely honest, I really like this logo.  I find that it is quite visually appealing and interesting to look at.  My only hope is that the contest holder thinks so as well.  I haven’t been having too much luck in that area recently.  My designs just don’t seem to cut it in the bussiness world.  Yet I think they are quite creative and innovative.

We’ll see how this pans out over the next couple days.  It’s all in the hands of the folks at Hunger Initiative and their desires.  Wish me luck as always.

Holland Photo Studio 2

Another design that I submitted into the Holland Photo Studio contest that was eliminated.  It just wasn’t what they were looking for in the design.  The people at Holland were looking for a more professional design whereas mine is more on the creative aspect. Anyway, I thought this was an interesting project to do as I’m getting a lot better at making silhouette/doodle people.

Feel free to visit the contest here and see the other designs.  They are inspiring as well!

A nice simple clean cut design for Holland Photo Studio. A photo studio that specializes in wedding photography.  This was made for their logo design contest.

Currently there are no entries besides this one so I will be lucky if none come in with in the next six days.  I’m quite interested to see how others portray the design as I was quite lost in trying to find something decent.  Even if I don’t win this will be a great learning experience for me.  I hope the designs of others will inspire me to enventually redo this and come up with something better.

Alta Hawks Logo

It’s always fun to help out the schools and produce mascot type logos.  This one’s for Utah’s Alta Hawks Basketball team. I hope that they will enjoy the logo as much as I had fun making it.  I think that the typography works well with the logo. However I think that the logo could stand alone as well, with our without the ball. It brings forth a nice professional cut design that they may or may not be looking for.

If it wins it will be printed on flyers, bumper stickers, t-shirts, and program papers.  The results to the contest will be posted in about six days.  Root for me!

Radial Symmetry

A bit of radial symmetric art featuring a blade/petal like design.  For those of you who do not know what radial symmetry is: It is the condition of having similar parts arranged around a central canvas. As you can see in the design there is the center origin and four identical sections. When rotated everything looks the same at all angles.

This was quite fun to make and I will be producing this on a larger scale in class. Probably in color too. Try not to get to mezmerized by the animation although its quite fun to watch.

PickThisCar – Side Block

Today Jared launched a competition on youtube to design his youtube partners side block.  After about 45 minutes of toiling around inkscape I created this.   I know it’s not really my best, work but i think it’s pretty entertaining.  Hopefully Jared will share this common liking.

Anyway the competition ends on the 10th of October.  I’m pretty sure there is going to be a lot more impressive entries, but at least I gave it a shot.  Only time will tell (and Jared) who the winner is.
