Vault

My Vault advertisement designed to look like a planning and collaboration board.  The slogan “designed for excellence” is portrayed within the design in great detail. The advertisement would generally run as a full page ad in a magazine. Maybe even a flier as it quickly showcases the message I wanted to get across to the viewers.

I used my old trigonometry and analytic geometry homework in the background as part of the decoration. (What better use for that junk eh?) Don’t copy the answers to the problems though… I won’t held liable for wrong work.

All-in-all I’m quite satisfied with how the advertisement came out.  I feel that it’s quite creative and portrays the idea behind the advertisment well.  Although I’m not quite sure if it portrays the actual product well enough.

On an unrelated side note – I’ve been toiling around with some poetry.  If I really feel the need to be creative I’ll post some of it up.  I don’t want to get too personal though.

Katara from Avatar the Last Airbender. Or at least an attempt at drawing her. I just couldn’t get the face right, even with the aide of the grid. Everything else looks pretty decent though 🙂 I’m quite satisfied with the body structure and hair.

While doing this drawing I had also shot some video like the Link Grid Drawing. Unfortunately I simply do not have the time to edit that right now.  My camera driver is also not compatible with my new computer so I’m forced to do editing off of my old slower one. Hopefully the will accompany this drawing at a later date.  Stay tuned for that.

Sxephil – Doodled!

Oh my, it’s SxePhil before all of his hair was chopped off.  Poor phil.

Anyway, this is obviously not one of my better doodles. I think it would have came out a lot better if the eyes were drawn in. However, I’m still not quite good at that and try to avoid it as much as possible. This was one of those times where I pressed the escape button and hoped for the best.  It should be still presentable though.

Enjoy!

Tiger Woods – Doodled!

A loving doodle of the golf world’s hero, Tiger Woods.  He is a literally an inspiration to all athletes and parents alike.  He always seems to have a cool attitude even when things are bad.  This is the reason I’ve chosen to doodle him over any other athlete.

Behold! I’ve finally upgraded my website banner to something more appropriate.  I guess the dull gray blocks where starting to get to me. This design is quite flexible, to which I can update the supporting image to be holiday specific.

In addition to the banner you can also access the site via direct domain. Just type in www.Jessetalks.co.nr into your address bar!  You will be able to access all the same content as visiting in the normal fashion.

Look forward to more great updates in the weeks to come!

Earth Accents

I’ve been working on a few designs entered in the Earth Accents Logo Design Contest.  Although I still feel as if they are a little incomplete. Hopefully the contest holder will be able to provide some quality feedback so I can make the appropriate changes to the design.

For this one,  I fear that I may be doing to much with the whole logo.  It’s a tad busy and could be distracting or hard to print.  I was going for something creative but I knew would be lacking in print ethics.

Just a cut down version of the first logo.  I removed the tree because I felt it may be the reason for the distraction.  I don’t really know how I feel about this version.

Trying to escape from the tree design, I went with something basic.  Its nice but reminds me of something.

For this I took the concept of what an accent should look like and brief clean cut design.  It features the various colors that they were after and can use separately. It’s a simple clean cut logo.

Kitty Sketch

Just a kitty that I drew up in art class.  We weren’t doing anything and I had some time to spare, so I gave it a shot.  The roughness of the outline is an intentional part of the artwork.  However some of the roughness can also be attributed to my trepedition about the placement of the paws.

The shading in the background is accomplished by using a cross hatching for the darker areas.  The bodily shading is hardly present but is done in the normal fashion.

Link From The Legend of Zelda

Ahoy, it’s Link From The Legend of Zelda!  I spent about half an hour sketching this from this beautiful reference picture using a grid aide. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this process, heres a brief description as to how this is done:

  1. Find a reference picture
  2. Apply a grid to the picture
  3. Create another grid with the ratio that you wish to enlarge or draw the new image
  4. Use the grid to help distinguish where lines meet to form the shapes of the figure.

(Right click and save as for direct download)

When drawing the new image, I like to start from the center of the image and work outwards.  It gives me a better sense of proportion.  Often when starting from the arms of legs I can become loss in how big they are actually supposed to be. Drawing the body first helps generate a solid idea of the right size compared to the body.

In the end, you can get a pretty accurate drawing of the image you were trying to replicate!  This is a fun way of learning to draw shapes and figures while creating a copy.

Natural Logic

Natural Logic is some kind of application design company located in Australlia. And, I don’t really care how simple this logo looks. I love it.

Even so I’m expecting it to be eliminated from the contest selection quite soon though.  I’m designing all of these things but i just don’t feel like they match with the company.  They look great, but the connection is lacking.  I’ll sort it out later though; it’s getting a bit too late into the night to do anything about this.

On a side note, I’ll be posting some doodles up soon. I don’t want to flood you with too much advertisement design things.  I’m sure a lot of you are here for other sorts of things.

Gizzi’s

Gizzi’s is some kind of random company I found looking through a phonebook.  Anyway this is a quick design for their events that they hold nightly at the coffee shop. I was trying to go with a vector type feel to the design.  The circles omitting outward from the main logo helps to draw the viewers attention there.

This design would be used for a poster on telephone polls and such. Sorry about the tops of eraser marks that show up.  There was nothing I could really do to fix that problem.

HMC Solutions

My designs for  the Hosting Messaging and Collaboration Solutions (HMC) Contest.  This competition really brought out the best of the other designers giving mine quite a bit of competition. Hopefully mine will come out on top!

When designing this, I completely skipped over the draft sketch.  I found that by doing this I was able to create something that is creative and unique.  Pictured above is the assortment of resulting designs!

Weenit

A simple basic logo for the Weenit logo competition.  I am in high doubts that this will come anywhere close to winning because the theme of the company.  I didn’t really cater to their concept of what the site is all about.

I’m mainly sharing this because I loved the design anyway.  Although I don’t see it as a winner for this particular company, it may suit another one quite well.  I’ll be looking out for a competition for some kind of design oriented or print company.  This would probably fall better with them.

Shigalicious Redesigned

I guess my cow didn’t appeal very much to the people at shigalicious shaved ice. In the end I revamped the entire design due to the previous being ‘eliminated’.  Paying attention to what the design types were eliminated and those that were kept, I came up with these:

There were several designs with palm tree in them.  This is a recreation of those designs with a different twist. I went for the originality with tree giving it a sketchy type feel.

Then I created this with remnants for the previous design.  The friendly members at Habbos.net gave me a few suggestions on how to improve the design.

Those suggestions then lead me to this design. I feel quite accomplished after all of this hard work!

hopefully during the night my designs won’t be eliminated.  I really put alot of effort into redoing them.  Oh well, a competition is a competion. Best of luck to everyone!

Shigalicious Logo Competition

I’ve entered a competition for the Shiga’licious Shave Ice and Snack Company hosted on 99designs.com. After doing a little web research on the company’s background I uncovered that their signature dish is the “Hole-E-Cow.” Therefore I thought it would be appropriate to include a cow within the design.

This is the pre-sketch routine that I go through to plan out the design.  I usually go through about 4-5 different designs then select the most appealing one to work with.  As you can see, this is the second design.

The design is then made into a scalable vector using inkscape.  (I can’t afford illustrator)

Color is added to give the design more appeal.

Then finally a extracted the main logo from the design just in case they wanted to use that alone.

Hopefully my design will appeal to requesting client.  There are a lot of other great entries to choose from. However I think that mine is personally catered to the company.  I don’t see any other designs which took the time out to find out more about what the company is all about.

Words – Session Three

As a pudgy little kid it took all of my effort to abstain from eating that delicious chocolate cake. I was stuck in a rote of “Do not eat the cake” for several hours. My father says that the cake came with his wife’s dowry after their marriage which unified their property.  Of course I was shocked to hear this because we are waifs who wander around a Loch in Michigan.  I suppose my new mother must have gotten it from the Monster who lives below the Loch’s surface.  We have a strong amity with him as we continuously drop pebbles to create a ripplet warning him when people are approaching.  That cake must have been a gift.

Don’t know what all of those words mean? Then that’s what the Words series is all about! Teaching you and me new vocabulary in a fun entertaining format. Some learn by pictures, others learn by reading. Now you can do both!

Just a tad late with the Rapid Draw.  (Originally supposed to be released yesterday, Aug. 22) In this session everyone is wearing a hat that expresses what they do.  A few are inspired by my real life friends, but the majority is just the quickest idea that came to mind.

Their names, in order of appearance: Melanie, Santa, Caz, Billy, George, Morgan. Send in your suggestions for themes, or comment and name the characters yourself!

AndrewBravener – Doodled!

I love Andrew Bravener’s videos. They are always so insightful but delightfully comedic.  Andrew addresses a lot of real life issues and attempts to come up with solutions to the problems.  He is also a fellow artist with an intresting (sort-of) abstract(ish) style.

Anyway here he is in doodle form. And I tried to do the eyes as well. Which surprisinging it didn’t turn out that bad.

Words – Session Two

I have a trepidation that my blog will suffer from seclusion if I use prattle rather than words.  I am also worried that every day that the Earth gyrates lawmakers are coming closer to making obesity against the law. It is in my hopes that this fails as many Americans would then be transgressing on a daily basis. I suppose that we should all just inherit a dendroid attitude before we are wizen and enervate society.

Don’t know what all of those words mean? Then that’s what the Words series is all about! Teaching you and me new vocabulary in a fun entertaining format. Some learn by pictures, others learn by reading. Now you can do both!

Send your word suggestions to Jessetalks@gmail.com! Including the definitions are optional.

Whataboutadam – Doodled!

Whataboutadam is a youtuber from Ireland.  His videos are often unique and creative.  He was actually one of the first people I started watching on youtube.  Anyway I tried to get this doodle of Adam as depictive as possible.  I found that it’s just not the same without his eyes.  Unfortunately that’s not my strong point. Therefore the doodle only represents “half” of what Adam should look like.

Enjoy it anyway 🙂

Today’s Rapid Draw is a special animal edition!  So really the slogan should be “As many animals as possible in five minutes.”  The characters were modeled after the designs from this royalty-free clip art site. I made a few modifications to them of course to save time and create a slightly different look. You’re looking at an enhanced version below. If you want to see the real sketch, before edit, click on the image below.

Also, I’m trying out a new Rapid Draw logo. featured below.  It’s a lot simpler but I think it’s lacking something.  A final version will be released soon.  Perhaps a paint brush or so will be added in the background.
