New Music Spotlight – 8.1.08

August’s New Music Spotlight features the musical talents of Brad Doggett .  His rhythmic raspy voice quickly draws your attention to his ability to sing in variety of music styles.  Brad has taken songs like “Hey Ya” from Outkast and transformed them into master pieces with his personal acoustic touch. Even the classics like “Blackbird” from the Beatles have been improved by Brad.

Today we are featuring Brad’s cover of “Sweetest Girl” by Wyclef Jean and his collaboration single “On My Way.”  Unfortunately we were not able to get the lyrics for On My Way, but we will update this post as soon as they become available.

Boyce Avenue – Doodled!

The ever-popular BoyceAvenue (Missing Stephen Hatker) has been doodled at last.  Although this certainly doesn’t explain my four day posting absence (More on that later).  It’s to blame for at least a days lack of work though.   It is certainly a challenge for me to get their curly down right. Thank god for Fabian and his realitively straighther hair.

I appologize for not getting all four members of the band.  I liked this photo the best so I went with it.  Maybe I’ll make a special doodle for Stephen later.  However I have quite a few more youtube doodles lined up before I get around to revisiting Boyce Avenue.

Can you spot the Easter Egg in this doodle?

Lil Chris – Doodled!

This was actually done by request from someone on Habbos.NET.   It is also the first non youtuber doodle that I’ve done. While doing this doodle I noticed that “Lil Chris” always has a hat on. This made it super difficult to find out how his hair is supposed to look. Eventually I just settled on trying to do the example hair in the photograph that the requester gave to me.

It’s much more curly in that picture, but other photos has his hair straighter. I guess I kind of balanced it out in between?  I also created my own shirt design instead of using the cartoon style one in the example picture.  I didn’t want to spend more time on the shirt picture than the person itself

Gaygod – Doodled!

Maybe you’ve heard of him, maybe you haven’t. I decided to doodle him anyway because I had nothing better to do with my time.  Anyway with over 75,000 subscribers Gaygod, Matthewlush, is the 18th most subscriber director on youtube.

I suppose I have to come up with some better reasons as to why I decide to doodle this picture. So… after a long time of thinking here they are:

  1. 1. The event in the picture is for some sort of charity.
  2. 2. The balls in the bowl are great for hoaring my blog in.
  3. 3. The fish bowl forces me to work on preception.

Also, I’m running out of youtubers to doodle. With about 18 doodles, there are not that many people left to doodle. (Well, technically there is… but just with people who are too hard to do).  If you’ve got a suggestion on a person for me to check out and possibly doodle, please leave a comment.  That would help out quite a bit actually.

Enjoy the doodle!

Doggettbm – Doodled!

Doggettbm (Brad Doggett) is quite a talented young fellow excelling in he musical arts.  I found his channel while searching for covers of Jazon Mraz’s song “I’m Yours.” Out of the few that I’ve watched I’d have to say his was the best.

After a while of looking through his myspace, I found a decent photo of him rocking out.  It is pictured above completed in a doodle!  I decided to add in the emo/punk belt because I find that drawing pants are easier with belts. Anyway I hope you enjoy this doodle, it took about an hour and 30 minutes to complete.

Chibi Attempt Number Three

Tags: , ,

After completing two tutorials I decided to give it a go and do an attempt without any tutorials or reference guides.  The end result – an interesting but strange attempt to do chibis.  I think that the head came out well, I don’t notice that many flaws. I also tried to work on the eye placement (as suggested by someone from Habbos.NET)

Torso and down needs work.  It’s not bad, but it’s not great either.  I guess it’s back to the drawing board… or in my case reading up on a few more tutorials and doing more practice drawings.

Chibi Attempt Number Two

I just got a new scanner so instead of the usual digital art that you’re used to getting on my blog; I decided to post my second chibi attempt hand-drawn.

I followed this lengthy tutorial this time around.  It’s much more detailed than the other tutorial followed and its got a interesting sense of humor.  Read all of the side notes with the tutorial arrows.

Well, I think that it came out quite well. I’m looking forward to doing more as soon as I find a little more tutorials so I can learn to draw them a little better. If you know any tutorial sites for this stuff please post a comment. That will make my search a whole lot easier.

PatrickBlog – Doodled!

Either his (PatrickBlog) background is hinting that he wants a doodle background or he is just a fan of white backgrounds with randomly placed text on it.  I’m kind of leaning towards the second reason though. Really… I have no idea how long his background was that way.

Anyway (I tend to say that too much) I think this is the first doodle that actually came out extremely well in a while.  I’m quite pleased with the outcome! Thanks Patrick for having an extremely easy outfit and well structured face (I guess) to doodle.

So really Patrick, Hopefully you’ll make this doodle as your background.  Or you could keep your nice question mark background. That works too 🙂

I suppose I’ll get back to working on the Daft Animation now.  Barely made a dent in any new frames being added.

Cadegoestocollege has been doodled! (Sort of).

I decided to take a quick break from working on the Daft Bodies Animation to do a quick doodle of Cade from CadeGoesToCollege.  I think it came out quite decently except for the fact that his left (our right) pinky looks like it’s swelling up.  Let’s just pretend that Cade had an accident while he was visiting matt (booshoe37).

I should also mention that the picture was modeled after his Oreo video. That’s why his cheeck has something in it and his mouth is full. Here’s the reference picture:

Enjoy the doodle… I’ll find to do more later.

Daft Animation WIP 1.0

Instead of posting a final product, I’ve decided to clue you in on the animation progress.  The process of creating the animation will probably take me much longer than originally expected. I’m guessing a month or two work if I want to do a really good job.

So far I’ve managed to do three out of a (re-estimated) 60 frames. This is barely a dent in the massive amount of work that is yet to come. Considering these frames are not even fully complete as the hair needs to be shaded in and the ab outlines need to be detailed. Baby steps I suppose.

Please note that the man is in boxers.  (Obviously). If you can’t handle the PG-13 nature (I suppose) of this animation, then kindly excuse yourself from viewing all posts in the category “Daft Animation”

It took me so long to post this up that I already have 523 subscribers.  Thanks everyone for your ongoing support.

Please go to the video page and watch it in high definition.  The quality compression is horrible if not. Poor youtube and my 50mb of file tribute.

Your name will appear in the video credit stream in this order:

Attempting the Impossible

Daft Hands, the popular internet video quickly turned into Daft Bodies. And this is where I want to take it to the next level. Daft Animation!

Basically  my plan is to take the Daft Bodies Form and change it into a “Doodle animation” similar to the backflip animation.  This is quite an ambitious project as it will probably take a good hundred frames to do the main movements. Considering I do not  have flash, nor do I have the knowledge of how to work with the flash program… everything will have to be compiled by hand very carefully. Grr, at my lack of an expensive adobe program.

As a result you will see a lack of doodles and other art posts until this project is completed.  Hopefully I can work fast enough get it done within a week to two weeks.  I will still continue to work on side projects though. So never fret, you’ll still get at least some dose of Jesse Talks Doodle/General art.

For now enjoy the video that I’ll be modeling the animation after:

Please ignore the undies.  That’s not the concept of this post. It’s more for a visual on the movement of the human body and how it will translate into animation.

If you missed Jazza (RhymingWithOranges) and NSGMusic’s blogtv show, then you really missed out big.  They did a ‘spur of the moment’ collab to produce a techtronic ringtone.  Amazingly Jazza is actually a good singer.

I’ve decided to upload it here so it will haunt Jazza forever. Basically that’s the whole point of this blog entry. I’ll get back to doing doodles/sketches/videos soon.

Download

I think it’s best if you listen using earphones. You get the full effect.

Chibi Attempt Numero Uno

Posted: July 16, 2008 in Artwork

Why did I feel the need to incorporate a little Spanish in the title?  I guess it’s because the word Chibi reminds of some weird Spanish dialogue.

So this is my first attempt at drawing chibi style. For those of you who don’t know what “chibi style” is, Google Dictionary Search classifies it as: “A drawing style in which anime/manga characters are shrunk down into a small, cute, child-like form.” This is usually portrayed by creating different proportions than your average doodle or human drawing.  The head becomes enlarges while the body is minimized.  Hair sometimes plays a role int he chibi effect, as I’ve noticed that artists usually create large hair attachments drawing more emphasis on the head.

Hopefully I’ve managed to capture this effect decently.  I’ve got to practice a bit more on the hair. (I decided not to clean the image up.  The sketchiness adds to the image since there’s no coloring)

If you recognize this pose/character, it’s because it’s from a tutorial which I tried to follow. It’s not really in depth though. It’s pretty straight forward and doesn’t go into details about specific drawing styles and rules.

TimKressin – Doodled!

Chances are, you have never heard of this youtuber in your life. Unless, you’ve followed along in last years lip sync contest by Samsung. Timkressin’s video placed first place in the event. Anyway, although I’ve know about his videos for quite some time, I’ve finally decided to doodle him (Tim, one of the brothers who use the channel).

This particular doodle is modeled after an older photo. It’s available on their website under photos. Therefore if you’re coming straight from one of their newer videos you may not recognize him entirely.  There is also a little Easter Egg hidden in the inkscape file.

Pretty sneaky of me eh? Well…I though so.

Pushin’ Me Away

Pushin’ Me Away from the Jonas Brother’s new single.  The beat is to a rythmic almost seductive tune.  It’s kind of interesting how the Jonas Brothers have progressed from music like ‘Poor Unfortunate Souls‘ and ‘Mandy‘ to this new style of music.  Personally I think this song is great for the beat, but not so hot on the lyrics.  To me, it’s a little to dark and erie.  Leave a comment on the youtube video about what you think about the song, and if you think the Jonas Brothers’ music style is better now or before their fame.

You can download all the images spread out in over 160 pages on the massive teen image site: teenidols4you.com.  Or you can download the files directly from my blog here.  However several of the images in the direct download have been water-marked to promote getting images from their original source.

Blog-worthy

It’s been quite a week! From the creation of the omgupload advertisement, to the recognition of my doodles by their models.  We’ve reached a record high of 302 views in last week alone, as well as reached my youtube goal of 500 subscribers. (Still working on the video). A lot certainly happened and I’m not quite sure how.

I mean, I know I’ve been actively posting and promoting the Jesse Talks blog. As well as trying to interact with the youtube community and filling in video requests.  However, I’ve always done that… so that can’t possibly be the reason to my hopefully continuing success.  Either way, I’m happy to take what life gives while it’s good.  Hopefully things will stay bright! I’m looking forward to more doodles, art, videos, and creativity.

I just wanted to thank you all once again for your support!  There are no words great enough to express how much your views, subscriptions, and comments mean to me.  I have read through all of your suggestions and comments and will continue to make adjustments to produce content that you find enjoyable.

Another thanks goes out to carlkr. A few days ago he changed his background to my doodle. That surprised me quite a bit. I’m also quite pleased with the recognition it got from a bunch of his fans on his channel page. Although he hasn’t told anyone where the background came from yet,  the anonymous fame still makes me feel awesome.

Levi Beamish (CorporalCadet) also somehow found my blog page.  He left me a nift little comment on the doodle page.  Thanks for your support as well!  That suprised me quite a bit too.

Kevin Bazinet dropped me a comment as well.  I was expecting a little hate mail because I posted his single without his permission for the New Music Spotlight 7.01.08.  Kevin pleasently proved me wrong.  He was more gracious than anything that I took the time out to spotlight him.  He’s such a great person!  As a fan, I’m glad he liked the video rather than asked me to take it down.

So the week 28 of Jesse Talks was an extremely interesting experience. I’m looking forward to more of these in the future… (Hopefully)

The Ad Is Running

The Bebo advertisement I created for omgupload is running a test drive on a few small advertisement placements.  Where are the ads running? Well… they are running here, on these sites:

Yes, I’m not going to give you the exact urls of the websites.  I do not want anyone to tamper with the hit rates the advertisements receive.  If you do come across them though, please keep in mind my request.  You already know about omgupload and don’t need to click them no matter how pretty they are.

Hopefully the management at omgupload will continue to use my after the trial period. If not… well it was a great run.

Mattrach – Doodled!

I got really lazy with this doodled.  Right off the back you’ll notice that there are no shading lines on his pants or shirt.  He’s also sitting on a bed which I also neglected to add shading/depth into.  It sort of looks like he’s sitting on the side of a wall now.

Anyway the real purpose for me posting this is; I wanted to try out a different doodling tool. The entire guitar and amp was made using the bezier tool instead of the usual calligraphy brush.  I’m going to continue to work with this tool as it greatly aids in shaping smooth curves.

I want to revist this doodle at a later date and add in the missing shading. Perhaps when I’m less tired. Eh, sorry Matt.
