After a two and half week hiatus the Go Green Campaign is finally back on track.  For those of you who don’t quite know what this is all about, I’ll explain it briefly.  This is an unsponsored event in which I create an advertisement campaign for an imaginary company.  Throughout the campaign I will produce various mediums of advertisements ranging from textual blurbs, to web adverts, to print style ads. You can find all of these examples under my previous campaign to which this is modeled after: This is Blue.

Also note that “Green” is not a real company. It is simply a color.  No money is made from creating these campaigns. Its sole intentions are to better myself as a designer by exploring new techniques.

Below are three 728×90 Banner advertisements that would run on a web environment.

Using darker shades of green this banner gives an earthy hand woven feel.  The tag line being “Possibilities for the future” presents the idea that green is a resource that we will need to turn to in order to survive.  I like the presentation on this design and it would do well on both a dark background and a light background observed here.

This advertisement utilizes typography and a faint background to draw attention to itself.  It presents the standard definition of green from dictionary.com highlighting the fact that green is actually complex.  The tag line “Put simply, green is the color of life” is the real focal point here which gets viewers to think.

Following the same theme as the second banner but with a more direct approach.  It clearly advertises and advocates a website (no affiliation with Jessetalks) which promotes “green.”  The simplicity of this banner brings forth the element of cleanliness.  I enjoy looking at this banner as the meassage is straight foward.

The Go Green Campaign will continue as I find new innovative ways to bring forth the color green.  I want to do some kind of photographic advertisements, but I don’t really have the proper cameras to do that.  Maybe in the future.

Words – Session Five

Two young women, Jane and July, began their journey cross country.  Their goal was to travel from California all the way to Maine.  They knew their journey would be rough. Yet, they were not dissuaded from their plans.  Both Jane and July thought that if they managed to create enough forbearance and discipline they would be able to plan out the trip and make it successfully.

This was about as close as Jane and July would come to reaching Maine; the plans.  The moment they left off from California they were confronted by an incumbent to the law.  He pulled them over because of a broken tail light which was out because of the recent neighborhood depredation of property. Several bandits were trying to usurp their car just the other night. Eventually they managed to get off with only a warning after a few moments of entreaty and guile.

The duo felt relieved to finally really start their journey cross country.  They traveled for a few hours before they began to notice that their fuel had almost dwindled away.  July suggested they make a pit stop in the next town. However upon arriving there all that was left was a pile of ashes from an apparent fire that had ravaged through the area.  Military succor was being deployed from parachutes as their tank reached empty.  The girls trip got even worse with a crazed man who walked up beside the car.  He mistook their car for his ex wife which was suing for redress and began to assail them through the car windows.

Their whole trip ended up in a flop.  Perhaps it was just because of the first unlucky event that caused the rest to ensue in misfortune. Maybe next time girls?

Don’t know what all of those words mean? Then that’s what the Words series is all about! Teaching you and me new vocabulary in a fun entertaining format. Some learn by pictures, others learn by reading. Now you can do both!

Banners (1-9)

A complete collection of the last nine banners on Jesstalks (in case you missed them).  Featuring images from Labor day to the end of the world.

However my favorite would have to be the nighttime sleeping one.  I thought it looked really great on the page and brought forward a nice atmosphere.  If you look hard enough through the files on this site you can probably find the day time version of it.  It hasn’t been used yet as the top banner, but it exists.  Maybe if you’re clever you’ll find the url.

Feel free to request a special banner for an event you’re celebrating using the contact form.  All ideas are welcome because I’m bound to run out of creative juicces sooner or later. (Explanation to almost a weeks worth absent posts)

School Lunch Poster

Somewhere along my high school career I acquired the ideology that the school cafeteria completely fails at making a tasty delicious lunch. Sure it was healthy, but tasty? No. It was only until this school year that my cafeteria actually began to make some decent changes.  They brought in a salad bar for the vegetarians and a sandwhich cart. It’s not the biggest change but at least it’s a start.

This poster is mainly about how much school lunch “sucked” before this year.  I made this poster last year during my advertising art class, but haven’t posted it anywhere until now. It’s done in my usual cartoonish style and not targeted towards advanced art.

Feel free to use this poster around your own campus should you wish.  It takes up quite a bit of ink though.

Tiger Drawing – Third Draft

This is the third and final draft of the tiger drawing I’ve been working on for the last couple of days. You can hardly tell what was drawn in and what was the actual original drawing. (The right side of the picture was the original). I’m quite pleased with this drawing and glad I took the most time out of anyone in the class to attempt it.  The results were well worth it.

Now that the black and white portion of the project is complete I’ve begun working on a oil-pastel based version.  It will be drawn from scratch without the aide of the right side.  Hopefully I will be able to take the work home from school so I can properly photograph and post it here.

Tiger Drawing – Second Draft

A few more hours of work in class today and it’s beginning to take shape. All that’s left to do is the remainder of his right paw, and the tree bark he’s perched upon. I may also decide to improve the shading around his ears but there isn’t much to do there.  It shouldn’t be that complicated in comparison to the rest of the body work.  Hopefully I won’t tragically ruin the whole drawing by the next and final update.

Tiger Drawing – First Draft

I’ve recently just begun this drawing but I want to get it up in it’s draft stages anyway.  Its nice to be able to track an art works progression over time. Currently the nose and most of the inner face is done.  I’m just working on the edging and making the fur more realistic.

To be completely honest I’m quite surprised as to how the “half-drawing” is turning out.  I have no idea how I got the nose area to look so realistic.  It just sort of happened that was after about 20 minutes of toiling around with the structure. I must have erased it a bunch of times before settling on the currently displayed.

Anyway, I’ll keep you posted on updates to this drawing. It’ll be due in a couple of days so  you should get the remainder of the project’s outcome quite soon.  Keep posted!

Colton Rudolff – Doodled!

This is Colton Rudloff from youtube.  His music style is similar to Jesse McCartney and sings a variety of pop type songs.  I really enjoy listening to his covers so I thought I would draw a doodle version of him in my spare time. Feel free to check out his myspace when you have some time yourself.

Design wise on the doodle I think I covered his head and upper body well. It may represent him a little thicker than he actually is though. The legs were done really quickly so they aren’t that accurate nor detailed. I probably should have spent more time there.

Crush – David Archuleta

It’s been so long since I’ve updated anything in relation to my ch0c0fr3ak youtube account.  When I purchased my new computer it also came with some different video editing software.  So over the last month I’ve been learning to use some of the different effects.  The main issue was saving the video file after I completed the video.  It took me a while to figure out the correct settings to get the video to process in the highest quality without becoming a huge file. I’m still working on tweaking the settings a little more.

Anyway I’ve released my lyrics video for Crush by David Archuleta. This was requested by a fan. Enjoy!

To make up for my almost two month absence I’m also providing the download without any watermarks (placed by me). However I still encourage you to visit the source site: archuletafans.org!

A background animation that I’m working on for Dave from Musicfromblueskies.  I think it’s great so far, but I don’t know how it pans out over the page. I haven’t tested how it looks tiled so it might be a total failure.

Also if Dave decide to check this page, the one I sent him is a little faster paces.  Perhaps he might decide to use the tempo of this version of the animation.

A Few New Features

To enhance your experience while viewing Jessetalks I’ve added a few new features to the blog.  As you already know, there are active RSS Feed links located on the top right hand corner of the page. However there are now social networking links located in the right hand navigation bar too! You can bookmark this site to delicious, stumbleupon, reddit, slashdot, digg, and 35 other networks.

I’ve also added a multilingual translator for visitors from other countries around the world.  I won’t gaurentee that the translations will always be accurate, but they are decent.  Currently we offer translations in Simplified Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, and Spanish.  If enough people request translations from other countries I won’t hesitate to get them added.

Thanks for viewing!

Yesterday I flipped through some old photos from excursions I went on in elementary school.  The times when learning was actually an unforgettable experience. Now days, it’s just a dull classroom and a lecture that feels like an etnernity.

Surprisingly all of these photos were taken with a disposable Kodak camera. I retouched them a little though because my scanner obviously hates photos that are over 8 years old.

This is a taro patch in Waipio Valley.  My third grade class visited here to learn about the Hawaiian culture.  When I took Modern History of Hawaii in my Junior year there was no such excursions.  Only a textbook filled with black and white photos of everything but traditional taro patch.  To be honest I learned much more in third grade visiting the taro patch and experiencing first hand than reading about in the textbook.

The lookout point before entering the valley.  To be honest after searching Google for similar for photos of this same lookout point… I have to declare my photo the best. I guess that’s just because I took the photo though.

An action shot from Dolphin Quest at the Hilton Waikoloa. That instructor was actually quite mean… the movement we were doing was to instruct the dolphin to jump up and splash us all expectantly. Gah, I was quite gullible during 5th grade. However at the end of the day we I learned quite a bit about marine life on a basic level.  Too bad I don’t have any marine biology classes to compare this experience to.

All in all I think my elementary school excursions were way more education than my high school classes. At least we were engaged and willing to learn as students. I’m sure if my high school offered similar field trips but taught on a more advanced level students would 110% more willing to get involved rather than taking a mid day nap in class.

I have a few more pictures stashed on the side, but my scanner simply decided that those wouldn’t be going up. Darn thing completely ruins a lot of the pixels when scanned through.

Pringles

Boredom gets the best of everyone. For me it leads to drawing random objects on my desk.  Thankfully I ate all of the pringles while drawing this so there won’t be any more Pringles doodles anytime soon. Unless of course… my rubbish can decides to tip over again spilling its contents all over my floor.

Take this quick drawing as you will… there will probably more to come if I don’t start to find more youtubers to doodle.  Make suggestions from the contact form on the top of this page.

The World Ends Today

According to many scientists the world is supposed to end today (September 10) when an experiment involving proton cannons is conducted.  As a result I thought I would release a draft of art that I’ve been working on for a while.  This way just in case all of society ceases to exist I can say (if that’s what you do in the afterlife) that I posted that piece to my blog.

Now if you don’t believe in all that mumbo jumbo about the world ending… at least you got a sneak peak at art to come.  Consider it a gift 😉

Following the footsteps of my This is Blue Campaign, comes the epic Go Green Campaign.  For those of you unfamiliar with what these two campaigns are about, it is an advertising campaign for an imaginary company.  In this case the company is the color green.  Throughout the campaign period I will develop several advertisements which could run on various media ranging from magazines, to the internet.

Because these are not real companies, no profit is made from any of these campaigns.  They are simply done to better myself as a designer and artist.  It is also my goal to help influence other artists to be creative and develope campaigns of their own.

Below are two 330×300 advertisements which would normally run on a web environment.  Although this is not the standard size for advertisements so it would be resized before it could actually run.

In this advertisement I wanted to portray a friendly, out-going message.  It grabs your attention from the page, because it is not what everyone is used to seeing.  The message is subtle but effective. You will notice that I’ve also embedded the new Jessetalks “mascot” into the design. No, that’s not his real name though…. it’s just for the purpose of the campaign.

This advertisement is a little more straight forward.  The message is displayed in the whole advertisement, and the viewer doesn’t have to look hard to see what it’s all about.  The tagline effectively plays off the whole famous person endorsement sterotype.

Look forward to more additions to the Go Green Campaign Soon!

Jessetalks is in no way affiliated with http://www.gogreen.com.  The tagline and idea behind this campaign is used as a purely representation of the color green.  Reproduction for education uses only.

RoboFillet – Doodled!

With over 1,100 subscribers RoboFillet is on his way to youtube stardom.  Recently I uncovered his channel by searching through the subscriptions of one of my friends.  His videos are usually a bit odd but at the same time entertaining.  I just wanted to create a little tribute to him and his randomness.

If want the original picture you can get it off his blog here. Plus there’s also a bunch of pretty buttons all over that page.  I like to look at them when I’m bored.

From the art perspective, the doodle is done quite well.  I couldn’t quite figure out to do the hair flippy thing with out making his head look like it was on fire. (I gave it a go anyway and above is the last edit).  Leave a comment if you have suggestions as to how this could be improved, or would like to suggest someone.

Invader Zim

Dunn Dunn Dunn! It’s invader Zim and he’s taking over Jessetalks!

My friend Scott (Yes the same one from words session four), is a tad obsessed with Invader Zim. He won’t admit it to your face though. I just know it’s something that’s concealed under his skin. And just to clear things up, not all my friends are as abnormal as Scott is. 😛

Anyway I’m glad to present you with a three piece Zim collection.  I’ll be doing a few how-to-draws later on.  The characters are quite simple to draw in reality. Anyone with a basic sense of shape and design will be able to draw them nicely with a little guidance.

Post a comment about if you would prefer a video tutorial, or just a basic text/image tutorial.

Words – Session Four

Scott was your typical twenty-year-old university student still living with his parents. Born and raised in a bourgeois family he and his friends often had to make do with their imagination and second class toys.  Scott and Jesse, his best friend, would often gather in his basement and have a complete metamorphosis into Batman and the Joker.  Scott would resiliently bounce around the room off of a giant spring board pretending to fly. While Jesse tried to create some Peccadillo offense. Unfortunately that crime always turned out to be him tinkling on the wall and Scott refusing to play along any longer. The Joker won every single time except for the one time Scott left the basement window open. An acrimonious bee flew in which resulted in Jesse running around with out any recalcitrant actions.

Other times Jesse and Scott would pretend that were each different feuding nations. Scott was the juggernaut nation of America and Jesse- Iraq. They would have an Imbroglio discussion with Scott even bringing in the United nations to help support his case. Eventually all would be conciliated between the two nations and no nuclear warheads would be lost.

Don’t know what all of those words mean? Then that’s what the Words series is all about! Teaching you and me new vocabulary in a fun entertaining format. Some learn by pictures, others learn by reading. Now you can do both!

Thanks for sending in your doodled request Emily!  I tried my best to get it done, but it’s a known fact that I’m horrible at drawing eyes. Unfortunately most of your picture involved drawing in the eyes.  In the end, to avoid utter disaster, I decided to leave them out… yet again.

I’ll understand if you don’t want to use this on your profile page 😛

The Unfinished Face Project

Posted: September 5, 2008 in Artwork

I began this project months ago and never got around to finishing it.  Probably never will either.

Basically a friend from a forum which has closed its doors now asked me to create a some pixel art of her in this pose.  As you can see the job was nearly completed but fell through.  I’m quite proud of this unfinished work of art because it was my first attempt at drawing pixel art style.

You are welcome to try and finish this image up.  It really only needs the hands and a bit of hair. (I suppose that’s easier said then done; hence my neglect of the project)
