Words – Session One

Introducing another new series: Words!  Inspired by my English teacher; Words will be a sketch drawing of numerous vocabulary words.  I’m combining my love for art with a need to expand my vocabulary.  It is in this process that I hope to learn a few things as well as share some art with you. Who knows, maybe you might even learn a new thing or two.

This weeks vocabulary terms are: affliction, cowering, fetter, infamous, lament, livid, loathsome, murky, pilgrimage, purge, relish, talon, taut, and writhing.   I already knew what a bunch of these words meant, but completed the assignment as such.

Words and Rapid Draw will now be on alternating daily schedules.  Don’t be too sad though, you’re still getting a daily dose of something. (Minus the skipped day yesterday for planning)

Rapid Draw – Session Three

Another day, another rapid draw.  My mind was kind of wandering far off into imagination land this time around as I’ve drawn some pretty far off characters.  Appearing in this order: Geoff the cyclops, Merlin the wizard (of course), Penelope the farm girl, Dexter the geek, and Judis.

If I had an extra minute to finish off the last person, she would probably be named Cleo.  You can guess what the sketch would look like.  Maybe I’ll try and get her finished in tomorrow’s rapid draw. (Or she’ll be faceless forever!)

Sumfight – Doodled!

I don’t really know what to say about this one.  I spent alot of time on his clothes and surroundings and not so much on his head.  I suppose my neglect to that area weakens the doodle.  Oh and on a side note, fur edge coats are pretty dang difficult to draw.

Anyway, enjoy the doodle! Feel free to send it all the 8,100+ sumfight fans on youtube. I’m sure that they’ll add this to their Cody shrine regardless.

Rapid draw session two features six new “rapidly drawn” characters. (In order from left to right, top to bottom) Nana Lou, Chip, Manny, Pedro, Jeff, and Princess Diana. Personally I think Nana Lou makes everyone else look bad; especially Manny. Somehow my pencil went a little funny when it came to him.  Oh well, there’s always room for improvement!

You can suggest a rapid draw character idea by using the contact form on the top of this page.  Although I’ll probably ignore your idea and draw whats on the top of my head anyway. Still, it’s worth a shot though!

It’s been a while since I last doodled someone.  I thought that I would refresh the dying trend by doodling a trio of epic people.  Hopefully this will make up for the lack of doodle art.

I’m quite pleased with the outcome of the doodle.  There are a few noticable flaws but I decided to overlook then and post it anyway.  Enjoy!

Remember, you can suggest people to draw by submitting a request through the contact link near the top of the page.

I’ve decided that I’m going to start a new drawing series called “Rapid Draw.”  The goal of this project is to draw as many faces as possible, once per day, in five minutes. As a viewer you will see a very rough sketchy quick draw of the various faces I’ve drawn for the day posted here.

Personally I hope that this will further my drawing skills because it will force me to neglect the small details.  As a slight perfectionist most of the details I stress over don’t really make that much of a difference anyway.  I guess this is sort of my personal method of “mind training.”

The faces names from left to right, top to bottom are: Yuri, Don, Sam, Gerry, Judy (the girl), Ben.  No particular reason for naming them other than how the name matches wil the facial expression.

Curious George

It’s Curious George! He’s such an enjoyable cute character. A pleasure to draw and not that complicated.  Hopefully you’ll find some interest in cartoon characters.  If not, oh well… It made me happy anyway.

The final installment to the This Is Blue Campaign is a set of 300×250 advertisements. These are a common size found on a lot of websites.  To be honest I wouldn’t really call these designs advertisements because they do not produce strong messages.  The designs are still decent and at least memorable.

Jive is your typical fun loving kid who enjoys nearly everything about life.  He is willing to try new things, even if it means making a mistake.  Jive’s contagious attitude about life encourages all of his peers to move forward in life and look on the bright side.  With an infectious personality Jive dances to his own beat setting new bright examples for others.

Yes I’ve expanded that drawing I did during my teachers presentation setup.  No, I didn’t do the rest during the actual presentation.  This was done while watching half an episode of myth busters.

My Hero, My Mother

My English teacher recently asked me to write an essay about what I think a hero is.  Below is the completed assignment expressing my personal definition.  The experiences and thoughts expressed here are quite personal.  Feel free to leave your comments but please keep them positive. Remember, there are always two sides to a coin. Your opinion may be different then mine.

My Hero, My Mother

Everyone in the world has a different opinion about what a hero is. They come in many shapes, sizes, have different characteristics, values, and beliefs. For me, a hero is someone who is willing to put a hundred percent effort into protecting you from pain. They will stop at nothing to provide you with the security of safety; and will share with you the knowledge required for survival. A hero doesn’t have to have impeccable character, high importance in society, or have a classic sandwich named after them in the local pub. A hero just needs to be someone who cares for your happiness and loves you for being yourself. My mother is my hero.

I was about ten years old when I first realized how much of a hero my mother was. I began to understand that the consequences and discipline inflicted on me was not in hatred, but to teach me a simple lesson about life skills. I recall a time back when I was around five or six where I threw an enormous tantrum about eating my vegetables. Being the hero that my mother is, she made me eat every last carrot, pea, and broccoli there was on my plate. At the time I thought that she was just a cruel parent forcing her kids to eat something utterly repulsive. In reality she taught me so many things about life from that single instance: how to have self control, how to keep a healthy diet, and most importantly how to sneak vegetables into my napkin under the table. Till this day mother’s heroic lesson about life skills is continually exhibited in my teenage career. It is because of my mother’s lesson that I try to discipline myself to do things that I would otherwise procrastinate from. Like the undesirable task of eating vegetables; doing my homework and chores before enjoying going out with friends is only second nature.

As my hero my mother has gone out of her way to make sure my happiness is always fulfilled. During my childhood my favorite holiday was Christmas. Like every child, I used to wake up extra early on Christmas morning just to see what Santa had left under the tree. There was never a time where I had woken up to disappointing present-less stocking or missing poorly wrapped package with the scribbled “love Santa” embroidered on the side. She had really made me feel that this magical being was coming every year to drop off that present under the Christmas tree. What really made my mother an outstanding hero is that Santa’s present was always ten times better than her own. She’d even act surprised when I beamed a huge smile after unwrapping the present to find just what I wanted. My mother is a hero in the sense that she didn’t hesitate to make me happy. She didn’t ask for anything in return for my glowing Christmas smile, or even dare to take credit for Santa’s doing. The satisfaction upon my face was all that was necessary to suffice my mother’s actions.

When I was about ten years old my mother had gotten me and my brother scooters. A short time after I had fallen off while neglecting my mother’s caution to ride slowly. This minor accident felt like my legs had suffered from a miniature explosion and my arms were badly severed. My mother knew that it was only a small cut and bruise and it would only take days for it to heal. However I insisted that I had broken my wrists and that we needed to go to the hospital immediately. Without a single hesitation she led me into the car and drove straight to the hospital. After spending countless hours in a seemingly endless process of sitting and waiting, the doctor released me with only a few bandages. My heroic mother couldn’t protect me from the pain of getting hurt but she made sure that she did every possible thing to negate the effects. As my hero she comforted me when I was in pain, and when I needed her most. She was able to provide me with a sense of security giving me the confidence that everything would be alright.

My mother is a hero not because of what she offers to the world, but what she offers to me. She makes me feel like I am the most important person in the world. I know that she would drop anything in the world if it meant protecting me from being hurt. My mother has given me the knowledge required to be a successful productive member of society. She has taught me to love the skin that I’m in, and never to be afraid of expressing my personality. My mother is my hero, even without her own personal sandwich.

As you all know, school has started for me about two weeks ago.  It’s been quite a challenge to keep up with blogging and school work. So far everything’s been going well though.  Although I promised that I would continue with the This Is Blue Campaign soon, I have to put it off for just a bit.  Hopefully by late tomorrow or over the weekend I’ll be able to jot down some ideas and put out a finished product.

Anyway, I’ve been drawing in my classes again and have come up with this.  It’s just a quick five minute job while the teacher was setting up for a slide show presentation. Enjoy, but don’t expect too much.

Oh, and don’t mind the Jimmy Neutron hair.  I just felt like doing something a little out of the ordinary while I waited for time to pass.

Patrick Makes Me Smile

First off, I’ve got some good news and bad news.  Funny how Karma works eh?

The Bad News

Recently Brad Dogget has asked me to remove the On My Way Video from youtube.  Heeding to his request, it has been set to private.  Please do not ask me for access to the video because it will not be given out.  Instead why not visit his myspace where you can listed to and download it for free.  Once again I do apologize for the inconvience Brad, and to my viewers.

The Good News

PatrickBlog has decided to use my doodle of him as his youtube background!  I’ve been wanting him to do so for quite some time.  Seeing it actually on the page makes me smile on the inside.  Thanks for the feel good moment patrick!

I’ve also got more good news.  A person by the name of Molly has contacted me in regards to my Shiny Teeth and Me video.  Apparently she wants to use it for educational purposes in the state of Tennessee.  I’ll be in contact with her soon. (And thats that, because I don’t want to discuss this further)

In other news,

The This is Blue Campaign will continue tomorrow.  (Hopefully) If I manage to squeeze in some time to work on it.  Calculus is eating up everything.

AmigoMusica – Doodled!

This kid has some serious guitar talent.  When you have time be sure to check out Luc’s youtube channel to immerse yourself into his music.  Now, about the doodle…

It’s a fairly simple doodle in which I should have spent a little more time on.  It’s missing a lot of detail on the guitar as well as his shirt. Hopefully you didn’t notice until I told you 😉

Please send your suggestions for doodles through the contact form.  It helps to include a reference picture of the youtuber you want doodled.

The third installment to the This Is Blue Campaign takes off with full page advertisements.  Both are quite different in design targeting two separate audiences.  Hopefully you’ll find them interesting enough take take more than a glance at.

This advertisement could be diversely used in every magazine.  It’s simplistic elegant design is stunningly attractive.  In addition to the three word tagline the viewer is likely to associate with this poster again in the future.  I think that I portrayed a strong message with this design.

This design is not as strong as the first one.  It’s main target would be teenage girl magazine readers.  If I decided to further progress this design I would probably remove the flowers from the wave pattern.  I think they are bit distracting and takes away from the main concept of the poster.  Unfortunately it’s a little too late to fix the paper drawing and I have no plans to continue working with this design.

Where have all the images gone?

Due to a server problem it appears that all my images hosted on an external image host have been compromised.  Luckily I have a backup copy of all the artwork posted to this site. Therefore over the course of the next few days I will be tediously relocating them so they are locally hosted.

I deeply appologize for the inconvience if any observed. Please use the contact form to report missing artwork after Sunday, August 10th.  I will tend to the issue as soon as possible.

So yes Patrick, your doodle will be back up shortly for your viewing pleasure.

This set of advertisements would be used on your Google adsense type blocks.  They are designed to attract users by presenting something that is completely different from the probable page. Due to the spacial limits of this page, you will need to click on the banner to see the full image.

Blue!?! But all the text is green! But the message is clearly evident… even green want’s to be blue.  I tried to invision the other colors as a competitor to the product blue.  A technique often seen in advertising is comparing their product to their so-called competitor product.  By using green to draw in people who enjoy green they are subtly given the suggestion of “purchasing” blue.

The high contrast of the flourscent blue and black quickly force the user to focus on the banner.  I chose to use flying orbs as the background base because that provided for a decent flow from left to right.

Your classic blue line. Simple blue attractive. I didn’t want this banner too flashy or to take away too much from the display page. The user gets the message even if they don’t read the banner’s text because the banner is made up of the product… and nothing blue the product.  It’s simplicity might even attract more attention that a really flashy design like #2.

Tip: After clicking to view each image on a new page; use this JavaScript injection to enhance the image’s potential:

javascript:void(document.bgColor="black")

Don’t worry, it’s only going to change the background color.

Tomorrow we shall continue with the This Is Blue Campaign.  I’m thinking full page advertisement! So make sure that you check back soon 🙂

This is Blue is an advertising Campaign that I worked on over the couse of last year and through the Summer.  I have chosen to advertise the color blue rather than a real live company which produces a product.  This was quite an interesting and challenging project for me; especially in this first set of advertisements.

You will notice that all three of the advertisements created are in black and white.  For someone trying to sell the color blue, I’m wasn’t off to a good start eh?  The purpose behind this excercise was to design advertisements that will attract users not by color but by some interesting aspect of it.  Each of the quarter page (although may appear in different dimensions on my blog) brings forth something different and unusual about the color blue.

When you first think of blue, you think of water.  This is where the design starts to attract you.  Then once you are aware of the pattern being shown you are then taking notice on what it’s made up of.  The word Blue repeated hundreds of times.  To me this is an effective mode of advertising because the product becomes part of the design.  Repeating blue makes people remember what the advertisement is all about.

This advertisement design targeted interactivity into the concept.  Instead of making people remember the name, I wanted people to remember their actions associated with the brand.  People are more likely to remember coloring in a picture than viewing a black and white advert.  The theme is circulating around the color blue in reference to the ocean and a sunset.

This is your average run of the mill design… Sort of.  Its unique almost abstract looks brings attention to the image as well as helps the viewer recognize the image and brand in the future.  This image circulates around rain and the ocean.

There will be more parts to this campaign which will be posted soon.  I have a bunch of advertisements already lined up for posting.  So maybe the start of this school year won’t be so postless after all.

I was browsing through one of my really old gaming magazines and came across I Ninja.  I remember this being a game that i enjoyed playing (at least on the demo machines at Wal-Mart).  Anyway I decided to draw him just for kicks.

I some how forgot to do the feet though.  I guess I wasn’t really paying attention much.  Anyway, enjoy the image.  Click for the original scan before I removed the colored outlines.

Pendole #1 – Walk It Out

Posted: August 4, 2008 in Doodles
Tags: , , ,

As expected my classes were quite boring which lead to time to pendole!  Pendole is my term for doodling with a ball point pen.  Eh, basically it sounds much cooler then Pen Doodled.  Try to bear with my randomness.

This is the combined effort of three class periods in which all we did was go over syllabuses.  I think by now (as a Senior) we already get the point about class room rules and who our classmates are.  Do we really need to spend a whole day on introductions?

So before I go and make you read more about who boring my day was here’s the pendole.

The sentence was orginally supposed to be “Walk it Out” but I ran out of time to finish.   Also, there’s really no purpose to this pendole other than to keep me occupied for three hours of my life. I must have gone over the lines tons of times O_o

I’ll be heading back to school tomorrow so there will be a slow down in posts.  Which you may have already noticed.  Don’t worry though, I’m taking several art classes this year and will be posting up my work over the course of the year.  I’m sure you’ll find that my drawing style is a little different than my computer drawing style.  I don’t really know why that happens.

Anyway hopefully you’ll all stick around for another year.  There’s lots to talk about and I’ll be sure to keep you all updated.  I’ll probably posting a few drawings up tomorrow because I’m bound to get bored in one of the many required courses I have to take.
